Portable Or Handheld Digital Oscilloscope

Friday, March 24th, 2017

Are you associated with electronics or field service work then you probably can’t live without a hand-held oscilloscope. If you don’t yet have one you’ll wonder how you survived without it after you get your first.

Today you can get analog to digital converters that can collect data an order of magnitude faster than ever in this century. These hand-held oscilloscopes are extremely portable and durable in order to survive your toolbox. Oscilloscopes are commonly used to observe the exact wave shape of an electrical signal. In addition to the amplitude of the signal, an oscilloscope can show distortion, the time between two events (such as pulse width, period, or rise time) and relative timing of two related signals.

Portable Digital Oscilloscope Changing the face of field testing

Oscilloscopes are used in the sciences, medicine, engineering, and telecommunications industry. General-purpose instruments are used for maintenance of electronic equipment and laboratory work. Special-purpose oscilloscopes may be used for such purposes as analyzing an automotive ignition system, or to display the waveform of the heartbeat as an electrocardiogram.

A Portable or Hand-held Digital oscilloscope can capture event that occurs only once. It is able to process and store waveform information to be viewed later. It is able to send information to computers and other devices to perform analysis and many other. The simplest form of this type of oscilloscope is consisted of six parts. They are analog vertical input amplifier, analog-to-digital converter and digital waveform memory, triggering and clock drive, circuits, LCD or LED screen, and power supply. They truly are a piece of equipment that is an investment which pays for itself several times over. Hand-held oscilloscopes are made possible by todays every increasing electronics capability.

Portable oscilloscopes are mostly used in field troubleshooting applications from electrical and electro-mechanical to electronic and industrial control systems. Digital storage oscilloscope, are the rugged, reliable scope for field service professionals. As they come with advantages like low cost, high performance, light weight, they will definitely replace the years old heavy weight oscilloscopes in a short span of time. Oscilloscopes have transformed from a voltage measuring box into a versatile instrument. Research has been carried out to speed up the working on complex high-speed patterns of signals. Just like other industries where innovations in software technologies have contributed to better growth, use of software. In oscilloscope industry is taking oscilloscope to altogether higher platform making it user-friendlier.

Keep Hplc Systems Honest With A Digital Liquid Flow Meter

Monday, March 13th, 2017

Digital liquid flow meters help keep pumps honest and contribute to the labs meeting FDA standards for HPLC system IQ, OQ and PQ validation as well as ongoing performance verification.

Unlike using timers while manually collecting HPLC pump effluent for measurement by weight or volume a labor intensive technique that can be subject to operator errors digital liquid flow meters greatly simplify the pump calibration process and increase the accuracy of validation procedures. HPLC Flow meters can weigh only 12 ounces and are capable of measuring pump flow rates ranging from a high of 25 ml/m down to 0.05 ml/min with a flow rate accuracy of 1 percent. Moreover, critical record keeping can be facilitated by automatic data transfer via a RS 232 interface on many units, to a PC or a battery-powered printer such as the easy to use rechargeable thermal mini-printer.

Specification and Use Suggestions:

When chemists select an HPLC flow meter they should be certain that the model is compatible with all HPLC systems they employ. Other features to look for include a traceable calibration certificate, accuracy at low flow rates, and compatibility with all common HPLC solvents.

Flow meters must be correctly mounted and consistently maintained in order to assure accurate readings. Mounting kits that ship with the units allow several options including on walls, free standing and stacking. Instructions should be closely followed. Lab technicians should establish standard operating procedures for checking the cleanliness of flow meters on an ongoing basis to avoid dirty sensing tubes that lead to incorrect readings.

Remember too that while a flow meter usually is shipped with a traceable calibration certificate, annual recalibration is required in conformance with good laboratory practices.

Fast, accurate calibration of flow rates used in HPLC flow systems can be compromised if the flow meter is not maintained. While GLP (good laboratory practices) call for annual flow meter recalibration by the manufacturer, improper use of these precision instruments can soon render them inaccurate.

A serious error is introducing in immediate succession two immiscible liquids into the flow meter. Either allow the first liquid to completely evaporate or introduce a third solvent in which the other two are miscible.

Dirty sensing tubes in HPLC flow meters may cause bubbles to become entrapped. This can create falsely high readings. If bubbles are observed, a quick fix is to turn the unit off, wait approximately 2 seconds to allow it to drain, then switch it on. Contaminated tubes will also result in an Error 4 reading denoting either the flow meter is not draining or the sensing tube is contaminated.

Another good practice is flushing the flow meter with methanol if it is not to be used for a week or more. This prevents algae growth in the tube.

Some Tips to Read a Fluke Digital Multimeter

Sunday, March 12th, 2017

A Fluke digital multimeter can perform variety of measurement functions. This device can work well in measuring current, voltage, and resistance. By choosing the correct function on selector knob, you can make and read on the measurement on digital display. The Fluke digital multimeter comes with large digital displays so that this can make the numbers easily to read. Besides, this also makes it much easier than the analog multimeter that makes the measurements by a needle which being deflected across the dial face. For whichever type of the measurement that you need, the Fluke digital multimeter can provide the reading that you are searching for. At this time, this article is going to deliver several tips that will guide you to read Fluke digital multimeter. So, just take a look at the following tips.

The first thing that you have to do is to connect probes to your digital multimeter. Probes are color coded black and red. There are separate jacks that used for measuring current, so you have to make sure that you know the type of measurement that you are going to make when you are plugging in your probes. Also, you need to match the colors between probe banana jacks and the input plugs. After that, you should insert black banana jack into the negative or the common plug, and then insert red banana plug into positive plug.

The second thing that you need to do is to turn on your multimeter. What you have to do is to turn the function dial to the function that you want to use. This digital multimeter has the automatic range circuitry, so what you need to do is to select the function. You can select the current, resistance, or voltage.

The third thing is to touch probes to metal contacts from which you would like to take the measurement. You also keep your hands on plastic insulation part of the probes for safety reasons.

The fourth is to read directly the number on the display of Fluke multimeter. The number is the value which is being measured at the tips of probes. For the voltage, the number will be in the volts. For the current, the number will be in the amperes. For the resistance, the number will be in the ohms. You need to watch the decimal point for the numbers and the values less than one.

Finally, you should remove the probes from measurement source and then turn off the Fluke digital multimeter. Then, you have to write down the measurement if you are worried about forgetting the reading.

If you want to get further information about multimeter, you can simply check out the review about clamp multimeter. In this review, you can also find more complete information about Fluke 30 clamp meter.

Digital Hardware

Friday, February 10th, 2017

Digital Cameras, printers and scanners are not absolutely essential hardware for your PC but by and large, you will rarely find a small business nowadays without at least two of the three peripherals.

Various reliable sources have estimated that very soon, the only people who will prefer film cameras will be those who want the cheap, single-use disposable cameras and professional photographers who want to create certain effects that they only feel with film. Can digital technology ever push film out as Joe Soap’s choice for capturing and storing his precious image memories? Well, as we discovered, the answer is most definitely yes.

Digital cameras give you an impressive array of special features and modes that photographers could only dream about a few years ago. You can look at an image in the LCD viewfinder immediately after shooting it and know whether you got the photo you wanted. If not, you can delete it and try again, because there is no film or processing costs. You can quickly upload images to your PC if you want, but a number of cameras don’t even require a computer – they transmit images by a CompactFlash (CF) modem plugged directly into the camera.

Storage isn’t a problem anymore. The addition of a MicroDrive allows you to store hundreds, even thousands, of images without reloading. The applications are endless – especially with the time-lapse and remote-control capabilities available on some cameras – making them suitable for science, medical, nature, and surveillance work. Other digital cameras offer video, and some can record sound annotations with each frame. Many have panorama modes, manual controls, the ability to synchronize with an external flash, or burst modes for shooting up to 2 frames per second at full resolution. And of course, your web pages can be totally transformed quickly and easily by posting images taken with a digital camera directly onto your site.

Bear in mind that while two-million pixel digital cameras are more than adequate for most homes and small offices, enthusiasts and avid photographers will need to invest in at least a three megapixel model.

Scanners

Scanners, once only the domain of design houses and printers, have become almost as common as printers. Over the last couple of years, the scanner has become quite inexpensive and relatively easy to use, making it a worthwhile addition to any home or business PC setup. And you can now easily incorporate exciting images into your presentations, Web pages and brochures.

Essentially, a scanner is an array of photosensitive silicon cells that measure the light reflected off – or transmitted through – an original. Those measurements are then mapped onto levels (for example, 256 levels per primary color for a 24-bit scanner) by an analogue-to-digital converter, and stored as binary digits that you can view and manipulate with your computer.

For most models these days, initiating a scan is as easy as pushing a single button on the scanner itself or on the interface. The use of parallel or USB interfaces in most of the latest models has eliminated the tortuous task of installing a SCSI board. The design and construction of even the least expensive scanners showed that they were able to deliver perfectly good images for the average user.

As a general rule of thumb, the minimum color depth you should consider for scanning photos and documents is 24 bits (8 bits per color or gray shade). But even the best 24-bit scanners suffer from noise, which means they fall short of the dynamic range of a typical photograph. In theory, a higher bit depth should always be better than a lower, but unfortunately this isn’t always the case. For instance, some manufacturers use a 24-bit CCD and combine it with a 10-bit rather than a standard 8-bit ADC to stretch the output range of the colors into the shadows and highlights. So, in this case, a very good 24-bit scanner can still give you better images than a mediocre 30-bit one.

On the other hand, if you’re scanning slides, negatives, or transparencies, which have a broader tonal range than printed photographs, 30 bits is the absolute minimum you can get away with.

Printers

It’s a well-known fact that laser printers have major speed and quality advantages over their fellow print partners, the inkjets. But if this is so, why doesn’t everyone have a laser on their desks? Well, up until now, the laser printer has also had to cope with some seriously ‘big’ disadvantages – high price and huge heft. But, the good news is that the latest batch of lasers has definitely slimmed down on weight as well as in price.

If you print loads of text-heavy documents and are hardly impressed with the print quality of your inkjet, then the laser is calling out to you. (Don’t part with your inkjet though, if you need to print color documents or photos.) Not only are lasers zippy and sharp, but their consumables are much cheaper too. A laser’s toner cartridge may cost more than an InkJet’s ink cartridge but it lasts much longer, which all adds up in the long run, especially if you do a lot of printing.

The laser is a robust workhorse and can fit in quite well in any business environment.

Digital Camera Help

Friday, February 3rd, 2017

If you are fairly new and want some digital camera help, then let’s cover some of the more common things to help you get started.

The Basics

A digital camera captures the image when the light from an object is focused and falls on a light sensitive sensor within the camera. Each camera’s sensor has tiny little pixels on the surface and the number of pixels determines the highest quality of the resultant image, and also the class of the camera. So a camera that has 4million pixels is known as a 4megapixel camera, and so on.

How many pixels do I need?.

As the number of pixels increases, normally so does the price, and sometimes the size of the camera, so choosing wisely will save you both money and effort in carrying. If you want to print standard photo size prints then a camera of 3-4 mp will be adequate, but if you want to print large A3 prints at a good quality, then you really need a camera of about 6mp+. Remember you can adjust the quality down but you can’t use pixels you haven’t got.

Bells and Whistles

•LCD Screen -Normally on a digital camera you will be framing the shot and reviewing the shot on a small screen at the back of the camera, make sure it is of a decent size and you can view it in sunlight.

•Scene Mode – Allows the camera to set optimum settings for a selected type of shot.

•Focus Points – You have the ability to select a point or area that the camera uses to focus, invaluable when shooting small objects against a bright background.

•Zoom – Optical zoom is better than Digital Zoom so try to get a camera with the highest optical zoom.

•Macro – To enable you to get really close focus, and try for those real ‘Arty’ shots.

•White Balance – Adjusts the camera to compensate for color-cast when shooting under artificial lights.

To give you the best digital camera help, these are fundamental to your enjoyment and results . So take care in selecting. Remember price alone does not guarantee results.

Cameras have become a staple item to have in any modern family. There is no better way to capture a cherished moment with your family or the landscape of the place you take your holiday and keep it with you in an album, photo frame or wallpaper on your computer. Digital cameras have made it even easier for your memories to live on in print, innovating the way we store our photos and eliminating the need to purchase camera film. Most digital cameras have USB capabilities that allow you to send the photos straight to your personal computer, meaning you no longer have to take them to get them developed.

Most digital cameras these days have abolished the need for viewfinders, allowing you to see the picture in a more accurate representation of what it would look like in print. This means that no longer will you receive your photos back from the development studio only to realize that your lens was smudged or the camera strap was in the way. With a digital camera, you are able to review the photo immediately and fix any nuisances you didn’t notice before.

Digital cameras have made the lives of both budding and professional photographers easier, too. Digital Descriptions

Tuesday, August 30th, 2016

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Yet, all too often, people come to coaching using just a single word (i.e., a label) to represent how they see something, such as, “I am a writer,” or, “He is a leader,” when in reality the label lacks specificity and represents a vague picture of HOW things really are (i.e., their reality). As a coach, I prefer using digital descriptions instead of labels because I believe they paint a clearer picture of reality.

Let’s explore digital descriptions and how useful they can be, starting with the letters in our alphabet. When you think about it, letters are really just symbols that we use to construct words and labels. And when you assemble the words/labels into a description, a picture emerges. So, think of words/labels like pixels (i.e., colored dots), which are used to form a digital picture. A single word represents a single pixel, so the more words (pixels) you use, the clearer the picture becomes.

I will illustrate digital descriptions by using our digital picture metaphor. Think of the label “tree” as a single green pixel in a digital picture of a tree. With no other pixels, the picture would just be a green dot and look nothing like a tree. Add a thousand other colored pixels one by one and a specific picture of a tree comes into focus. In a similar fashion, let a green pixel represent a label (e.g., tree). With no other words, the picture would just be vague and lack specificity in the representation of a specific “tree.” As words are added to the description (e.g., large, tall, robust, oak, winter, positioned on the side of a mountain, in fall), the number of words increases, thereby bringing more specificity to the exact image of the specific tree in the specific environment in which it exists. Thus, if a picture is worth a thousand words, a description needs a thousand pixels to clearly represent what is real.

Digital descriptions can have a profound impact in casting (or miscasting) one’s role in life. Let’s assume there is a need for a leader. Before we can cast the right person, we need a clear picture of exactly what kind of leader we are looking for (i.e., his/her attributes). To attain a clear picture, we need descriptive words. To do that, we need to question the label: What exactly is a leader? What attributes make up the kind of leader we are looking for? How would we find a person with such attributes? These open-ended questions may be challenging, but they are critical in the formulation of a digital description. The following are sample digital descriptions of a leader:

A brave soldier who is the first one onto the battlefield.
A person who has the specific knowledge to get our troops safely onto the battlefield.
An articulate, charismatic individual who can inspire our troops and motivate them to go into battle.
A person who can be held accountable for the success or failure of our troops on the battlefield.
Different combinations of the above.

As you can see, each description brings clarity to the different kinds of possible leaders and key attributes (i.e., bold words) that one needs to possess. A digital description brings your attention to what you should be paying attention to. By just using the label “leader,” we run the risk of miscastingour leader. Imagine the impact of casting an articulate, charismatic leader as the person who is in charge of getting our troops safely onto the battlefield. We would have a motivated group with no knowledge about how to get where they need to go. In the end, digital descriptions reveal subtle but profound differences in the picture of the leader needed and his/her associated traits. The lesson here is simple. Labels, generalizations, and our keep-it-simple culture only serve to misdirect our attention, thereby inhibiting our ability to clearly see what is real (i.e., reality). So, the next time you get stuck and don’t know how to move forward, pause and consider using digital descriptions to describe more specifically what is going on. Like pixels in a picture, the more words you use to describe the picture, the more your picture will resemble what is actually real instead of what you believe is real.

Digital Multimeter – In-depth measurement of a device

Thursday, August 4th, 2016

The ultra modern Digital Multimeter is highly accurate. It is durable and consists of many more features as well than earlier multi meters. When testing with a digital multimeter, the user receives signals as numbers. It converts signals gained from the devices checked to voltages and convertes them to digits through electronic circuits based on pre-arranged software program. For this task, digital multimeter receives support from an inbuilt small computer.

People use Digital Mutimeters to measure voltage, current, resistant, short connections, as well as Transistor hFE values. For example, when there is to measure a potential voltage drop between two points, the two wires of the multimeter should be connected to the two points where the potential voltage drop is evident.

Before applying it, the pointer of the Digital Multimeter should be pointed to V sign. The user could select any value between 0 to 1000V. However the range should not exceed the maximum of its circuit value. Exceeding the value of the circuit may damage the digital multimeter. If the measurement was between 0-20V, the V value should be pointed to 20V. When it is set, the Digital Multimeter can show all the values up to 20V.

Proper maintenance of a digital multimeter is vital to have accurate measurements. In addition, the user should know how to avoid probable self-accidents while handling it. The first time digital multimeter users should read the user manuals of the multi meters that they are going to use. Every manual has sections on safety warnings and special attention should be given to it before using a digital multimeter for the first time.

This type of testing devices should be connected to accurate power supplies and voltage rates to avoid accidental fires, shocks etc. The right voltage etc is given in the user manual. It is imperative to check for broken places, loose leads clips, etc., of the digital multimeter before a testing. It is recommended not to use digital multimeters with split cases, broken leads chips etc. The users must protect their digital multimeter from extreme temperatures, moisture and sunlight. When they are exposed to such conditions, they may get irreparable dysfunctions. When testing power circuits with a digital multimeter, the user should not touch exposed wires, joints and live circuits to avoid fatal accidents.
